GEOSYNTHETICS FOR SOLID WASTE AREAS


The major elements of this concept are the landfill's base and surface sealing systems. Geosynthetics have become an indispensable part of this sealing system. For example, they seperate the mineral sealing layer from subgrade or protect the geomembrane against damages. Geosynthetics are also used as filters between the refuse and drainage layer or to reinforce surface sealing and steep embankment.

FUNCTIONS OF GEOSYNTHETICS


It is especially important to seal landfill course base by geomembrane. Because it constitutes the most essential barrier for the protection of ground water. There are two different types;the purely mineral sealing system and combine system, this system consists of geomembrane which is the protective layer against water, in addition to the mineral sealing course direction. The combined sealing is regarded as the best available technology for solid waste systems.
